We left Los Mochis at 6:30 in the morning. The first 6 hours were uneventful and slow. Once we entered the mountain area it became quite beautiful. There are 89 tunnels and 37 bridges in the complete route to Chihuahua. Huge loops that cross over itself. We went from Los Mochis to Creel the first day.Creels elevation is 7700 ft.

These women are native americans are called Tarahumara. They ran up to the train when we pulled into Posada Barrancas with baskets to sell. I bought one for $3.00 that is made with pine needles. The workmanship is incredible.
We did a tour in Creel of their homes. These people live in caves, under cliffs and in small wood and stone cabins in remote areas. They live there year round except for the cliffs homes that are real high. Those people move to the valleys in the winter because the weather is so extreme.

These rock are formed by the wind and water erosions. These are in the Valley of Arareko outside of Creel.

Bob & Iva The next day we got back on the train and headed back towards Los Mochis. We spent the second night at the hotel Mirador. It is built on the rim of the canyon. We did a walking tour and viewed spectacular views of the canyon.
The photos below are of the cliff dwellers. It is just incredible to see how they live. It is like stepping back in time. The guide told us that there was at least 50 families that lived in the canyon we were viewing. It was an awesome trip that we have talked about doing for years.
